To help protect your family against loss and the sense of violation that often results from theft, follow these useful guidelines:

• Have your mail held at the post office when you will be out-of-town.
• Suspend newspaper delivery while you are away.
• Ensure that your exterior doors are solid wood, fiberglass or steel.
• Whenever you leave home, lock your doors and windows.
• When you move to another home or apartment, change the locks and install a quality deadbolt lock.

• Consider starting or joining a Neighborhood Watch Program.
• Keep your garage door down when it doesn't need to be open. When leaving town, unplug your garage door opener. Remember to lock the door leading from the garage to your home.
